Michael Cooke:
Excellent experience with balancing the Rostyle wheels on my 73 MGB.
Might be the only local garage that has the complete set of adaptors and matching balancers to balance wheels using the ‘lug centric’ method recommended for these wheels.
Staff have the experience to do it for LBCs!!

There is a shop at 36 Robinson Ave., near the South boundary of Ottawa University in Sandy Hill, not far from where King Edward Ave turns into a long entrance ramp for the Queensway East. The owner's name is Gary (I forget the surname) and the shop is Gary's Custom Cycle. Phone (613) 565-7166. He's a nice guy and, as he has been in the custom cycle business for around 40 years, has an endless network of skilled people (welders, chromers, painters) that he can call on or direct you to. On his card he particularly notes "Vehicle Wheel Reconditioning."
Cheers,
Stuart Langford

Update: September 7, 2012 – Gary no longer does this sort of work and is closing the business at the end of the year [Doug Ward – Healey driver]

More Update:
Fred McEachern of British Auto Sport in the Toronto area can probably point you in the direction of someone who does wire wheels. His number is 1-888-485-2277, e-mail britishautosport@bellnet.ca

Dynabeads
From club member Gerry Neville: a product called DYNABEADS..... that can be used to balance automotive tires without attaching weights to the wheel rims.
http://www.innovativebalancing.com/index.html
There are also some other web sites with information.... do a Google search for DYNABEADS to see more.

and more about Dynabeads from club member JP Lacroix:
For a few years now I've been trying to get my wire wheel equipped 69 MGB GT to be able to cruise at highway speed without shaking itself to pieces. I completely rebuilt both front and rear suspensions and re-shimmed and lubricated the steering rack. The only other thing to look at were the wire wheels. I had them balanced multiple times by different tire shops locally..no luck. I swapped out the wheels which came with car for another set which I purchased from another member on ebay. They were a little better than the original set of wheels, however they still caused a fairly serious vibration in the car at approximately 60 MPH. The vibration grew in intensity and frequency with additional speed beyond 60 MPH (100 KM per hr). I became convinced that I'd needed to chuck the original OEM factory wire wheels in favor of a new set of Dayton wires complete with new splined hubs ($$$$$$). But before dropping all that cash I elected to spend around 75 bucks to try Dynabeads, which I purchased here http://www.innovativebalancing.com/index.php. I knew it was a long shot, but some of the testimonials on the website sounded encouraging. Well I put a 5 ounces bag of these things inside each tire (inside each inner tube to be more accurate) and then refilled the tires up to normal pressures (30 psi is what I run) . Took it out onto the highway, and wow what a difference!!! Cruised the car up to 85MPH before there was even a hint of vibration..then up to 95MPH (well in excess of local speed limits Mia culpa..) and the vibration was still far less than ever before. I can live with it like this with my 40 year old wire wheels. I saved at least a couple of thousand dollars which I was convinced I was going to have to spend for new wheels/hubs. I have no stake in the Dynabeads company or Innovative balancing company. For me, these little ceramic beads worked! I'm a happy customer. Hope this information helps somebody else. Note these beads are a bit of a pain to get into the tires requiring much tapping with a screw driver on the valve stem and supplied installation hose as they tend to get clogged up in the valve stem. However, with patience it was do-able, and certainly worth the effort from my perspective. Safety fast!
