Some Feedback On The Best Rustproofing System Investigation

Published by at 6:37 am under MG Services,Tech Talk

From club member Ihor Gawden:
I've had my 2013 Mazda 3 oiled yearly by Krown, since new, but the last couple of times their efforts seemed mediocre at best. The job seemed rushed and there were many areas that weren't oiled. At no time could I see the work being done. So I took the car to Holliday Auto Center today, and couldn't be happier. The work took about 1 1/2 hours and they oiled everything. This included removing several undercarriage plastic covers, cleaning out the collected debris and properly oiling the frame. I was able to watch much of the work. As for cost, it's about the same. Krown is $100 annually, which makes it about equivalent to the $150 for a 1 & 1/2 year duration. The current Holliday discount makes it a better buy. But it's not only about the cost, it's about getting a good job done, by people who care. The owner of Holliday Auto Center said he's only had a few club members so far, and was expecting more. Thanks to John's investigative efforts....I'm committed.

October 2022 Question About Undercoating
To: Leonard Fortin Cc: technical@omgc.info
Hello Len
Hope all is well with you,
Just a note to say i had my mg undercoated by Zak at Holliday Auto Service,
As it was a first application we agreed on a double booking to allow him enough time to do things carefully and remove interior panels,
I must say that he performed the work with excellent due diligence and attention to detail,
I am completely satisfied and appreciate your help with this,
Thanks

Mark,
I dropped into Holliday Auto Service (Rustproofing) on my way to last night’s OMGC meeting. And spoke to the owners. They did remember John Mulroy and the other OMGCers who had their MGBs done with the Corrosion Free process – but they didn’t remember my visit It appears their business is still going strong.
I specifically spoke to them about the issues raised by OMGC Tech Director Mike Price [rust traps in the lower front wing area and the dog's leg in front of the rear wheel]. They confirmed their process would address these issues, with appropriate entry holes and plugs. If you do decide to visit their shop, I suggest you chat with them about how the process would be accomplished in a satisfactory manner.
I was glad to see they were receptive and ready to provide service, so the info on the OMGC website will remain to help other folks seeking similar services.
Attached is a scanned version of the brochure they offered me. I’ll be outing it up to the website also.

Mark,
I’m Len Fortin (OMGC Webmaster). I review all mail traffic through the OMGC website periodically and did see the note you sent to techquestion@omgc.info
The note you sent was delivered to the Club Technical Director (Mike Price, cc’d here) and he may give a reply, but I do want to add my comments on the question.....
The information on the website about Holliday Auto Center was generated by former Club member John Mulroy (now deceased). His review of automotive rust prevention aspects was very well thought out . I remember speaking to him about the topic during his fact-gathering work. His documentation was thorough. The folks who attended the demo were impressed. Their notes on the document confirmed this. And one more Club member (Ihor Gawden) added his personal positive notes to John’s study in mid-December 2017.
I have not used the Holliday Auto Service, but I did visit the shop shortly after John’s review was published, and found the shop to be very satisfactory and appeared to be able to deliver great service.
I do hope their service today is as good as it was – but to answer your question..... the undercoating/rustproofing work they do is very worthy.
[ I should drop by their shop on the way to the OMGC meeting tomorrow to see if there are any significant changes since I visited in early 2018 ]

Subject: Question About Undercoating
Hi
I am a new member looking for advice regarding undercoating that may be recommended by the club for rust prevention. I read the article on the website. Is the Corrosion Free product and establishment on Bank St South still the best advice
Thanks
